From the Director’s Dock

Thank you for taking the time to visit our web-site and learn more about our mentoring program.
WCM has been dedicated to the mentoring of young men ages 14-18 using outbound trips for the sole purpose of retreating from day-to-day routines, struggles and vices in order to learn about like skills, hard work and biblical character qualities.
Malachi 4:6 tells us that it is God’s will to “turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers…”
We realize that it is not possible for each young boy that we mentor to be restored with their biological father. Some have been incarcerated, some are absent from the home and some have never met. But each young man can be restored to a personal relationship with his Heavenly Father. Our goal has been to teach biblical character qualities that in turn, create a hunger to know the Lord Jesus Christ and his “road map” (the Bible) that he has provided for us.
Each one of our trips begins with a work project. We map out the course of where we will be traveling and all the important details and responsibilities of preparing for a work project. Checking the oil and tire pressure in our vehicles, looking at the map for route and distance. Teaching the boys to be prepared with the right tools for the job we are doing has been fun and very educational.
Currently, we are working on re-building a lodge for our “Mentor Center”. Our last outbound trip, we mentored 3 boys with 3 adults. We traveled to Clever Missouri where the boys had a blast tearing down an old house for the property owner. Saturday evenings we always have a camp-fire service to get to know each other and start sharing different struggles or circumstances that the boys are dealing with. This particular weekend our character quality was “RESPECT” – always a good one for boys 13-18 yrs.
We talk about how we can immediately start applying respect to our parents, teachers, siblings and employers.
The weekend is all about building trust, giving hope and direction for these boys to develop into strong, Godly young men. After each work project there is always time for fun. Fishing, hiking, football, horseshoes, frisbee and hitting golf balls are some of the activities we enjoy and of course lots of goofing around and being silly!
Because our boys come from all walks of life, there are many times we need individuals who understand the ministry, to join us by sponsoring a young man to attend a mentoring weekend. If you feel like that would be a way you could share in the mentoring program please contact me at brian@wildernesscampkc.org.
God Bless You and Your Family,
